Cutting Practice
(for Pup. She actually already did all of the ones I have!)
Pin Poking
(animal shapes are from Montessori Print Shop)
Turning Lids with Spatula
Spooning Bells
(Pup really needs practice using a spoon. I'm not sure if she'll do it, but its worth a shot!)
Pouring into bowls
(sorry about the bad picture, my camera settings were messed up)
Tweezing Animals
Zoo Book making
(I am trying to encourage Bunny to write using all sorts of exciting things. I hope she likes this)
Vertebrate/ Invertebrate Sorting
( we are going to try talking about animals classification. We'll see how well I get those lessons in)
Sorting Animals by Continent
(animals are from our continent box, and the continent cards are from Montessori Print Shop)
Sifting Beans and Animals
Matching animals to animal cards
(This is Pup's work. The animals are the Zoo Baby Toob. I made the cards.)
More animal Math!
(Bunny LOVES "winning" the animals from me when she gets the problem done! We are working on addition with exchange. I think I will introduce subtraction soon as she has done these problems with ease! Like she say "I am just a math girl mommy!")
This is what we will be up to in our spare time! :) I think that we will try and do some more morning work and head out side later. But its summer, so we will see what happens! ;) Happy Schooling!
wow great material for your theme! I love it!
ReplyDeleteHi Stephanie
ReplyDeleteDrop by for inspiration. Looks great!
Is the white stuff salt in 'Sifting Beans and Animals'?
please do tell how it goes with the 'Turning Lids with Spatula'. My kids are having difficulty with getting spatula under flat lids
Sook-Mei
Thanks Jessie! It was fun to put together!
ReplyDeleteSook- Mei: You are right! The sifting activity is salt! I bought a ton of it when I was in a making playdough phase! :)
The Turning lids is tricky to do. Bunny is able to do it using the side of the tray to stop the lid from sliding away. I also found that the thinner spatula works better. Once its on the spatula all she has to do is flip! :) I hope that helps! Thanks for stopping by!
I love your zoo activities! How great that you even gave a zoo theme to your math activity! I featured your post and your sorting animals by continent photo at http://livingmontessorinow.com/2011/07/07/montessori-inspired-zoo-animal-unit/
ReplyDeleteI love these activities, particularly the sorting animals by continent. I saw an interesting world map (big wall map) matching instruments to country of origin. We were doing a class at the local Symphony. Very effective for all of us! In our home a popular sensory tub is the "treasure hunt" where we sift through rice for "treasures" which also includes various critters! Very fun!
ReplyDeletelook for miescuelitamontessori.blogspot.com is the blog of my good friend Karen and have great ideas for math and is a beautiful blog!!
ReplyDeleteHi Marnie for some reason I didnt see your comment to respond to it! I'm sorry! I love the sound of your treasure hunt! I have been thinking about doing rice, and having things burried in it! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWally, I love Karen's blog! She has great stuff! Thanks for stopping by!
