Bug and Pup, however, have been hard at work and they are both even trying to learn a few sounds. Its very laid back, Pup just wants to because Bunny and Bug do. Bug's mom said that she has been trying to pick "sounds" out on the computer, so I thought that I would offer a presentation on s,m,a,t. She seemed to like it, so we'll see! :) They are so smart!
Lots of Nature Tray work.
I love how she is looking SO hard! :)
I told you it was lots of work!
Even Tadpole wanted to get in on it!
Sponge Tower with tongs. Bug and Bunny have been doing this alot!
Pink Tower! SHE DID IT!!!!!!!
She was so proud!
Shape sorting.
Metal Insets
This was another work that everyone did!
Color sorting
This is an ant on our wall. We seem to have gotten ants in our school room, and while I hate having bugs in the house, the girls seem to really enjoy spending a lot of time watching them run all over the walls! :) Bug even told me the other day "Ms. Stephanie can I watch an ant, will you find one?" :)
They are totally fascinated!
Knobless cylinders in the cylinder block is a work that Pup got out earlier this week. I haven't given her a presentation on it, but she did see Bunny do it a few times. She wanted it so badly that I let her go. She really concentrated on it several times this week. Bug was interested too! :) They worked together this time.
I tried to present the teen board to Bunny this week. She wanted to do it at first, but after a minute she really didn't want to. So we put it away after I gave her the basic idea of what she needed to do.
Has anyone done any good Montessori presentations with their kiddos this week?
Kal-El has a week every once in a while where he is uninterested in the math and language shelves. I always freshen up the practical life and cultural areas (like you did with the nature tray, etc.,). That always gets his attention and keeps him working and in his routine. He always snaps out of it.
ReplyDeleteI try to see it as a blessing and another upside to homeschooling. John Gatto talks about how you are only ever reaching a small percentage of kids in a classroom at any given time. Say you are teaching 30 kids a math lesson. What you are teaching is too hard for 10, too easy for 10, and of the remaining 10 only 4 are in the mood for math right now. The rest would prefer to be doing another subject. At least WE can move forward at an unlimited pace when our child is interested. This allows us to lay off a little when they are not.
Just keep doing short and sweet presentations. Do some of the work yourself as if you are a student. You are doing the right thing. She'll come around.
Thank you so much for the encouragement! you are so right. She is working, just not on the newer stuff that I want her to:) I read alot of things about Montessori since I am so new to it, and I think "gosh Bunny is going to be 6! She needs to catch up on so much before she moves on! I need to teach her all of it NOW!" But that is beauty of Montessori and Homeschooling, there is no rush. Silly me! Thanks for the advise. It helps so much to talk with other poeple who are doing the same things!
ReplyDeleteOh, I also let Bunny scroll through the pics on your blog and she was facinated to see other kids doing the same kind of work we are doing! :) She really liked it!
