I really love to look through the pictures in the boxes with the girls and today Bunny was pretending that her baby loved lions. She had a lion toy for it and she was telling the baby all about lions in Africa! So I think that the information is just sinking in, even if they are only looking at the boxes for a short time! Gotta love the absorbent mind! I will be posting more on Africa soon!
You and I are on the same wavelengths. I'm putting together an Africa Continent box right now. Thanks for the great ideas. Where did you get the wonderful Nativity?
ReplyDeleteThat Nativity is just gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you can use some of my ideas! :)
ReplyDeleteI got the Nativity set from Meijer (our grocery store). It was on sale during Christmas. I did find a website that sells the same thing and it a Fair Trade site:

That is such a great idea! I've just used folders with pictures, but I love the objects ... it will attract the children so much more. Now I'll have to get busy collecting.

Gabriella,
ReplyDeleteHere is a school started in Africa, Tanzania by an Australia women. It is a pretty amazing story but may lead to some inspiration or products for your box.

I just love the story and think it would be great to teach the children.
Thanks for sharing Bern! I love that we can all share amazing ideas with each other!
ReplyDeleteHi Stephanie,
ReplyDeleteI am a Montessori teacher living in cape town, South Africa. I love your blog and am excited to use many of them in my class for next year. Some ideas to put in your Africa box- different flags, if you can't find any to buy then make your own using card and kebab sticks; pictures of the traditional houses- clay huts, you could even make one with your children to keep in the box- you need some air drying clay, small twigs or thatch for the roof, cone shape cut out of cardboard for the roof. Traditional homemade hunting tools used by the San and Khoi-Khoi. Traditional tribal clothing-could find pics on the internet i'm sure.
For more modern ideas, you could find pictures of Famous Landmarks like Table Mountain, which has just been voted one of the 7 Wonders of Nature!
hope these will help
