Applesauce Day!

Today was our annual applesauce making day. The girls and I rolled up our sleeves and got to work! They thought it was so much fun to help wash and cut the apples! It was good practical life and alot of fun for them! After the first bunch of apples was in the pot cooking, they started doing other stuff. Bunny helped a little bit more during the rest of the day, but other then that I was pretty much on my own! ;) As always it was a HUGE mess, a lot to wash, and a yummy, yummy, yummy! We made 23 quarts and they are all ready to eat all winter!

Do your kids help in the kitchen? What is your favorite autumn food to make?

  1. What a great idea to make enough apple sauce to jar! I make small batches that we use right away, but I think I like your way better: one day of messes as opposed to many!

My 2 1/2 year old daughter helps me make banana bread. She "stirs" the batter while I add ingredients. The real trick is to get everything mixed in and then poured into the loaf pan before she eats it all!

    1. I am the type of person who likes to get the mess all done at once! ;) I really hate all the mess, but having it all in jars and ready when I need it!

Banana bread sounds good! I love baking with the girls and quick breads are the best! Happy Baking!

  3. Great fall fun! We make our applesauce in the crock pot, with lots of pears! I have an apple peeler/corer that I have yet to master!

    1. Ohhhh...pears! Thats a great idea! I have a peeler/ corer too that we use for pies. With the processor/ strainer thing I have, I dont need to peel or core the apples! It does it all in the porcessor! Its a huge time saver when you are making large batches! Happy cooking!
